adding signed fractions is my biggest problem. Can any one help me understand it? I am a novice at it. What book or other resource do you suggest for starting this subject?

I think I know what you are looking for. Check out Algebrator. This is an amazing product that helps you get your homework done faster and right. It can help out with assignments in adding signed fractions, function range and more.

I know a couple of tutors who use Algebrator themselves to teach students.

I remember having problems with conversion of units, percentages and function range. Algebrator is a truly great piece of algebra software. I have used it through several math classes - Remedial Algebra, Remedial Algebra and Algebra 2. I would simply type in the problem from a workbook and by clicking on Solve, step by step solution would appear. The program is highly recommended.
